Our History

Alliance Benefit Group  was founded by Alan B. Arends in 1974. The firm developed a niche in providing Defined Benefit Plan retirement alternatives for the banking industry throughout Minnesota and Iowa. Soon the firm gained recognition in its marketplace for its leadership and expertise.  

In 1984, the firm recognized the unique opportunity to design and implement a new employee driven retirement plan – 401(k) - and became one of the first firms in the country to implement and administer 401(k) programs.

In 1993, Alliance Benefit Group recognized the unique opportunity of providing daily valuation services to the 401(k) industry and became one of the first independent administrator and consulting firms in the Midwest to implement this technology in-house.

As a leader in the 401(k) and benefits industry, the firm was a founding member of Alliance Benefit Group, LLC a national consortium of retirement plan leaders.
